Background
The Community Renewal Team (CRT) is an anti-poverty organization that helps people change their lives and create opportunities for themselves and their families. People of all ages come to us seeking help with basic needs or support in the midst of a crisis. But CRT is also an important resource as people plan for their futures, including things like taking courses, planning a career change, establishing new savings habits, or buying a home. We help individuals, families and entire communities take steps toward a long-term stable and more successful future.
Since 1963, CRT has grown into one of the largest nonprofit human service agencies in Connecticut. We offer a broad-based network of innovative, high-quality programs and services. CRT supports and improves the lives of tens of thousands of people living in Central Connecticut each year.
CRT grew out of a grassroots movement to address the impact of poverty in Hartford-area communities. In 1964, CRT joined a national movement to lessen the causes and conditions of poverty. CRT was then designated the community action agency for Hartford County. In 1999, CRT expanded into Middlesex County, allowing us to serve communities from the Massachusetts border to Long Island Sound.
CRT Serves People in Need Throughout Central Connecticut
With support from CAFCA and DSS, CRT produced a short video* about the work of the agency, and the programs we offer to the people of Central Connecticut. That video is available here for viewing, and can be shared publicly with credit back to CRT.
*Do note, this video was made BEFORE the COVID-19 pandemic, and some of the images included do not represent current social-distancing practices of the agency and its programs.
