In 1962, a group of community-minded leaders came together to draft a plan for improving the living conditions in Hartford and the surrounding towns. In 1963, the group was incorporated as the Community Renewal Team of Greater Hartford. CRT has grown to become one of the largest nonprofit human service agencies in Connecticut. Today CRT offers a broad-based network of innovative, high quality programs and services for people throughout Central Connecticut.
In 2023, CRT served 27,667 households and 57,967 individuals throughout our core service area in Central Connecticut (80% of the households served by CRT’s programs and services are between zero and 200% of the federal poverty limit; 26% are single parent households). Our core service area covers 40 cities and towns, but our work connects us to people in 129 towns throughout the state of Connecticut.
